This 2-day trek around Kathmandu is perfect for those looking for a short, moderate hike with beautiful mountain views, ideal for families and first-time trekkers. The trek begins and ends in Kathmandu, making it a convenient option for those with limited time but who still want to experience the beauty of Nepal’s nature and culture.
Trek Overview:

Day 1: Kathmandu to Chisapani
- Start: Drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal Bus Park (by private car).
- Trail: Begin the hike through Shivapuri National Park. The first village you’ll encounter is Mulkharka, home to the Tamang community. The trail here is an uphill climb with stone steps, leading you to the higher point of Mulkharka village (around 2200m).
- Lunch: Enjoy a traditional meal in Mulkharka.
- Continue: Hike through a forest trail, crossing the highest point at 2430m, then descend towards Chisapani (altitude around 2200m). If the weather is clear, you’ll be treated to views of 10+ mountain peaks, including Annapurna, Manaslu, Dorje Lhakpa, Ganesh Himal, and others.
- Evening: Explore the charming village of Chisapani.
- Distance: Approximately 10 km.

Day 2: Chisapani to Sundarijal
- Start: Begin the trek to Dhap Dam (altitude 2000m), a picturesque location completed in 2022. On a clear day, you’ll enjoy views of the mountain ranges and the dam itself.
- Continue: After exploring the dam, follow the trail back through Mulkharka and descend to Sundarijal.
- Lunch: Stop for lunch again at Mulkharka.
- Finish: End the trek at Sundarijal, where a private vehicle will pick you up and return you to Kathmandu.
- Distance: Approximately 12 km.

I was in Nepal with a group of friends in November 2024. We didn’t have enough time for a long trek, but we decided to do this 2-day hike and found the package to be perfect for experiencing local villages, mountains, a water dam, waterfalls, jungle walks, and beautiful hiking around Kathmandu. I highly recommend this trek to anyone looking for a shorter but memorable experience in Nepal.
The owner, Pasang, guided us personally and arranged for us to stay in a lovely lodge in Chisapani. Throughout the trek, he shared valuable insights into Nepalese culture, traditions, religion, politics, and much more. We are already looking forward to doing a longer trek with his company next year.
